Workshop
on adolescent adjustment
With the arrival of
a newborn life becomes more meaningful and joyful. All parents dream of
raising the most ideal child one could ever imagine. But with day to day
hassles of bringing up children, parents and children get out of tune
with each other, communication deteriorates and parents are really scared
when the child enters his adolescence. The adolescent is disobedient,
rude, has lot of negativity; he prefers friends to his parents. He is
attracted to the fancies of the outside world. Parents are scared, confused,
and desperate. “How do I make my child study more? How should I
handle his disobedience? How should I talk to him about sex or to her
about monthly periods? How can I save him from getting addicted to alcohol
or smoking or from getting hooked on to internet or pornography?.....
‘How can I control my adolescent son / daughter?’ is the big
question.
But trust me growing up is equally stressful for the youngster too. This
is the age when he wants to explore his potential, his developing sexuality;
he wants to taste the newly acquired social status and the freedom that
comes with it. But he still fears responsibilities . His self image and
confidence get quickly threatened in a difficult personal or social adjustment.
Parents can be of great help as friend, philosopher and guide only if
they understand how to deal with the big transformation in their child’s
life. This workshop teaches parents all about the psychological, physical
and hormonal changes taking place in a growing adult. It will guide you
as to how you can support and channelise rather than hinder the transformation
of your child from a cocoon into a beautiful butterfly.
It involves tips and practical guidelines in adolescent discipline, managing
emotions, dealing with sex related issues etc. It will enhance your role
as parent and your communication with the young adult to make him a more
balanced, motivated and confident citizen of tomorrow.
