Stress
Management Workshop
Stress is a
condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands
exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize.
Stress is often termed as a twentieth century syndrome, born out of man's
race towards modern progress and its ensuing complexities. Just about
everybody—men, women, children and even fetuses—suffer from
stress. Relationship demands, chronic health problems, pressure at workplaces,
traffic snarls, meeting deadlines or growing-up tensions can trigger stress
conditions. People react to it in their own ways. In some people, stress-induced
adverse feelings and anxieties tend to persist and intensify
Stress and health are closely linked. It is well known
that stress, either quick or constant, can induce risky body-mind disorders.
Immediate disorders such as dizzy spells, anxiety, tension, sleeplessness,
nervousness and muscle cramps can all result in chronic health
problems. In the long run they may also affect our immune, cardiovascular
and nervous systems, contribute to high blood pressure, high cholesterol,
and other cardiac risk factors such as addictions (smoking, alcohol etc.)
and obesity, eating disorders (unhealthy food habits), gastrointestinal
disorders such as an ulcer or irritable bowel syndrome, precipitating
attack of asthma or migraine.
Stress is known to
worsen many immune related medical conditions, including diabetes. It
suppress the body's immune response, increasing susceptibility to infectious
diseases. Chronic stress tends to affect the balance between oxidants
and antioxidants in the body which may result in pathological responses
causing functional disorders and diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's
disease. It can also accelerate the aging process.
By Learning to understand and manage stress we can prevent the counter
effects of stress.
A stress condition can be real or perceived.
A significant amount
of stress symptoms can be avoided or aroused by the way we relate to stressors.
Stress is created by what we think rather than by what has actually
happened to us.
So here is a workshop that gives you a comprehensive idea about what stress
actually is, when it can become harmful to us, how to identify that we
are getting adversely affected by stress and we need therapy. It will
tell you about practical tips and solutions to keep our stress
under control. It gives you information about breathing techniques,
meditation and the importance of regular exercise in stress management
Research suggests that stress can actually increase our performance.
Instead of wilting under stress, one can use it as an impetus to achieve
success. If handled positively stress can induce people to discover their
inherent talents.
This workshop will teach you how to convert this deadly enemy
into a submissive friend.
Go through the chart
given below and find out what is the possibility that you will
have an illness due to stress in near future.
Psychologists have
identified certain life events which affect average individual in certain
manner. They have thus given quantitative score to each event so that
you can find a score for yourself in order to get an advance warning of
the impending crises (mental or physical problem). It must be borne in
mind that the list and the scores associated with conclusion should be
drawn only after studying what symptoms the person is showing.
Go through the chart and total the score of events (LCU –life crisis
units), that have occurred in last one year. Interpret the results according
to the chart.
